2022 World Series Futures
We’ve got two futures to look at ahead of the start of the 2022 World Series
World Series Winner: Phillies +155
The Astros last 2 visits to the World Series have resulted to a loss against an NL East team (Braves & Nationals). The Braves & Nats came into their series after a less than ideal regular season. Both teams were able to find some momentum and ride that through the playoffs to a World Series victory.
This sounds pretty familiar to this season, right? The Phillies backed into the playoffs as the 3rd Wild Card team. The Phils were able to squeeze out a first round win over St. Louis. Then, the Phils had to face off against division rival and World Series champion Atlanta Braves. A lot of talk in Philadelphia was that the Phils were lucky to be in this position, they’re playing with house money. Next thing we know, the Phils knock off the reigning World Series champs. Awesome stuff, but they can’t take down the powerhouse Slam Diego Padres in a best of 7. House money is the best money to play with.
Philadelphia comes into the series with a good starting pitching staff who can match any starting pitchers in the league. Nola’s game against San Diego was a dud only going 4 innings giving up 7 hits and 6 ERs. Philadelphia was able to rally back after that loss to win out the series. Look for Nola to come back this series and be the dominant force he’s known to be. This Philadelphia team is full of young energy with a why not us mentality that the older players are feeding off of.
World Series MVP: Bryce Harper +700
David Ortiz, Pablo Sandoval, Manny Ramirez, Hideki Matsui, some players know how to solidify themselves into a franchise’s history by the swing of a bat. Bryce Harper’s name would fit perfectly right into that list.
Going into the Series matchup, Harper’s stat line has been full of efficiency.
18 Hits, 10 Runs, 5 HRs, 11 RBI, 0.419 AVG, 1.351 OPS
What a stat line can’t show is leadership, and the clutch gene. When Bryce was given a ground breaking 13 year $330 million deal with the Phillies, this is the exact situation is that everyone (including Bryce) had in mind. Bryce’s 2 run home run in the bottom of the 8th that propelled the Phillies into the World Series has been his biggest swing as a Phillie. Yet.
The 30 year old Chosen One (talk to Sports Illustrated, not me), is a leader in the dugout and has a way to make the others around him better. A World Series opportunity has been a long time coming for Bryce. He has never been one to shy away from the bright lights. Bryce has always been an aggressive hitter which fits right into Phillies hitting coach Kevin Long’s scheme. When Bryce is put into big time situations, my money is on him to deliver 10 times out of 10. This will be the season where The Chosen One’s prophecy is fulfilled.
