2022 World Series: Philadelphia Phillies v Houston Astros

Yup. The matchup we all had at the beginning of the MLB season is finally upon us. The Philadelphia Phillies +155 vs the Houston Astros -190.

June 3rd, the Phillies organization finally pulled the trigger and cut ties with manager Joe Girardi. In comes interim manager Rob Thomson to lead the Phils who were at the time 22-29 for the rest of the 2022 season. What no one imagined on June 3rd, is that Rob Thomson would be managing the Phillies through October and into the World Series. After backing into the playoffs, Thomson was able to lead the underdog Phillies to a series win over St. Louis. After catching that momentum, Thomson and the Phillies dominated their series against the Atlanta Braves 4 games to 1. Again posted as underdogs, the Phillies were able to not only defeat the San Diego Padres, but beat them handedly [That’s what’s In!]. A lot of the praise for the series win over the Padres is given to Thomson’s game management skills. Rightfully so.

After ending the season with over 100 wins (106-56), the Houston Astros have been absolutely steam rolling through the playoffs. Houston started their playoff run by raining on Seattle’s playoff parade in a 3 game sweep. The Astros pitchers proved how meaningless Aaron Judge’s 62 regular season home runs really is. The Astros have proved that they can win in any fashion which is to be expected with a veteran ball club who has been to the World Series now 4 of the last 6 seasons. Behind the bats of Yordan Alvarez, and rookie ALCS MVP Jeremy Pena the Astros look to remain undefeated in the post season.

The fall classic starts this Friday in Houston with Aaron Nola on the bump facing Justin Verlander.
